Are You Guilty Of Fueling Quarrels?

Proverbs is full of rich and wise scriptures.  I came across Proverbs 26:20 today and there was so much imagery implied in the word choice I had to share.

For lack of wood the fire goes out,
and where there is no whisperer, quarreling ceases.”

Wood fuels fire, we all know that… but how often are we aware that gossip fuels quarrels?  This is especially important for us as wives.  We need to make sure we are not gossiping about our husbands when we are in the middle of a conflict with them.  Those who you are gossiping to most likely won’t ever forget what you tell them and they will probably form an impression of your husband that will impact the way they treat him later.

You may forgive your husband and blot out whatever conflict or quarrel was taking place, but others might not be as forgiving. The Bible warns us about gossip and it seems to be a difficult thing to control for women.  So I just wanted to encourage all of us to be careful with our speech, whether about our husbands or anyone else.  We don’t want to be guilty or responsible for fueling quarrels!
