I could not imagine the weight of the pain and brokenness a wife endures when losing a husband.
Today was my grandpa’s memorial service. My grandma sat in the front pew of the church as the pastor shared the eulogy, his brother spoke about his friendship, one of his sons spoke about his ethics he passed down and one of his grandsons spoke about fond memories. A few of my grandpa’s favorite songs were played, a slideshow was presented which captured precious moments of our time with him, and the presence of family and friends gathered to remember his life and give condolences to the wife he left behind.

My grandma met my grandpa on her front porch when she was 8 years old. He looked at her and said, “I’m gonna marry you!” And he did! They were married for 49 years.
One thing that really touched my heart was a poem that the pastor read.
When Tomorrow Starts Without Me by David Romano
When tomorrow starts without me,
And I’m not here to see.
If the sun should rise and find your
eyes filled with tears for me.I wish so much you wouldn’t cry,
the way you did today.
While thinking of the many things
we didn’t get to say.I know how much you love me,
as much as I love you.
And each time you think of me,
I know you’ll miss me, too.But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand.
That Jesus came and called my name
And took me by the hand. And said my place was ready
in heaven far above.
And that I’d have to leave behind
all those I dearly love.So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don’t think we’re far apart.
For every time you think of me,
I’m right here in your heart.
Some of you know what it is like to lose a husband. I am very sorry for your loss. I pray that God gives you the strength you need everyday to continue the good works he has prepared for you in advance. I hope that this poem touches your heart, like it has mine. I pray that you and your husband both believe and understand the reality of eternal life and that time here on earth will determine where that eternity is spent. I pray for salvation in husbands and wives. I pray for long and healthy marriages! I pray that husbands and wives will take advantage of the time they have to spend with each other and make the most incredible memories:)
