UW Book Review – The Power Of A Praying Wife

UW Book Review The Power Of A Praying Wife reviews of christian marriage books movies Stormie Omartian Power Of A Praying Wife Christian Wife Christian Community Book Review Unveiled WifeAt the beginning of April I picked up The Power Of A Praying Wife by Stormie Omartian.  It has 30 short chapters – a perfect challenge to read one a day for a month – each one a different topic encouraging wives to pray for their husbands.  The title alone empowers wives, prompting them to take action in protecting their family!  The writing style is very comprehensible, making it a very easy read.  Stormie took 30 topics that are faced in marriage and provides a guided prayer for each one.  She also includes “Power Tools” – awesome verses – that reinforce why we need to keep God in the center of our marriage, why prayer is an important part of that, why praying for husbands in specific areas is crucial and reminding us the promises in God’s Holy word.

Stormie is very open as she shares in the introduction, “I’ve experienced the degree of hopelessness that causes a person to give up on trying to do what’s right.  I understand the torture of loneliness that leaves you longing for anyone who will look into your soul and see you.”  She also adds, “Praying Scripture over your husband is powerful.”  She gives personal accounts of how God has healed her marriage, as well as other couple’s testimonies that are very relate-able, encouraging HOPE.   This book is great because it teaches you HOW to pray for your husband and how to pray for specific areas of his life.

Stormie has a variety of books similar to this including The Power Of The Praying Husband and The Power Of The Praying Parent.  These books are so valuable in that you can go back and reread them all the time!  They never lose purpose, relevance, or power!

What I Got Out Of It:

When I was reading this book I realized that as I prayed for my husband, I also prayed over myself.  It was an eye-opener to some of the things I need to change and need prayer for.  It is obvious to pray for specific things when they aren’t necessarily perfect, but this book makes you evaluate so many different areas of your marriage, reminding you to pray for all of it in good times and bad.

As I read and prayed I noticed my husband being very soft and gentle towards me.  He desired to draw closer to God and he encouraged me to seek after God daily.   He began verbalizing his love for me, affirming me in my purpose in life.  God definitely brought us closer to each other and to Him, not because I forced my husband or begged him to do anything, but rather out of my obedience to pray for him… we allowed God to move through our marriage.  My husband just recently told me he has a desire to read The Power Of The Praying Husband UW Book Review The Power Of A Praying Wife reviews of christian marriage books movies Stormie Omartian Power Of A Praying Wife Christian Wife Christian Community Book Review Unveiled Wife I can’t wait to see how God moves through our marriage when he does!

I love this book. It’s great to pull out and re-read whenever my prayer life starts to feel stale or repetitive. Also love “Power of a Praying Parent.”

God absolutely used this book to SAVE my marriage! At a time where “walking away” would have been easy, i grabbed ahold of this book and prayed for dear life. What we experiened was a softening of hearts, a drawing toward God in an entirely new way, and a marriage that had been RESTORED to what God had intended for it to be. I reread it about twice a year, and it never loses value or ceases to be relevant. I give this to every wife who begins to complain about her husband, because in praying for your spouse YOU will be changed for the better! All of her “praying books” have really opened my eyes to the RESPONSIBILTY and PRIVELAGE we have to pray for EVERYHING and in all things. Can you tell I love this book? It will always be special to our family:)

I led  a study in this book almost 10 years ago and it was awesome.  Now my son and daughter are both married and my husband and I are leading another study in both the Praying wife and the Praying Husband concurrently with young couples and it is even more wonderful than before.
Thanks for this lovely series of books.

It’s wonderful to see how many women have testified to changes in their husbands  through this book and using it as a catalyst to pray for husbands. I would caution you, though, not to use it and use your prayers only with the result of changing your husband in mind. The change may come in him, or the change may actually come in you. What I would encourage women to do is, as always when praying, seek God’s will and let Him do the work. I confess, when I first read the book I quit half way through because my husband wasn’t changing into the man I thought he should be. What God was doing, though, was showing me how my expectations and desires weren’t His. My prayers for my husband continued but with a much different focus.

the first chapter of this book is worth the cost of this book! loved it. also recommend “Prayers of an Excellent Wife” by Andrew Case. these are scriptures put into prayers (not prayers based on scripture, but the scripture worded in such a way as a prayer). i LOVE LOVE LOVE this as a tool for praying for my husband, and as you said in the post above, for myself. often when i begin praying, the scripture and the Spirit lead me in confession and prayer for myself as a wife and then i am able to continue in prayer for my husband. praying for him works in me to keep my heart soft toward him.  :o)
