At the end of 2010, my husband and I discovered a major environmental issue that was wreaking havoc on my body. We are confident that God led us to this discovery as an answer to prayer…a plea for Him to help save our marriage.
My husband and I had been struggling with intimacy issues for four years, when this discovery, changed everything in just a few days time.
The discovery we made was the truth about parabens. This ingredient, in almost all of my cosmetic and personal care products at the time, were known as endocrine disruptors! I stopped using products with parabens and within a week my body radically changed for the better…and our intimacy issues were pretty much healed!
One of the reasons I started my blog was to get the word out about parabens and to be an advocate of healthy living. My hope and mission is always to encourage others and provide resources that would help marriages thrive.
Today, I want to share with you a review of a product that I love, especially because it is paraben-free! In fact, this company uses only a handful of ingredients, avoiding all those hard-to-pronounce ones found in other products. Their main ingredient is goat milk!
The Bend Soap Company is a local (to me) operation. Founded in 2011 in Central Oregon by husband and wife, Dwight and Marilee Johnson, they seek to provide quality soaps at an affordable price.
Dwight and Marilee also discovered how ingredients in personal care products can have an affect on our bodies. After one of their kids suffered from itchy skin, they were motivated to create something healthy for their family to use, and started making soap out of goat milk, created right there on their hobby farm.
I randomly met Dwight on an airplane flying out of Redmond about 2 years ago. We looked familiar to each other and soon realized we had some mutual friends. Over the last two years we have seen their family and their business grow. It has been fun to get to know the Johnson’s and hear more about their passion for making healthy goat milk soap more widely available .
A few weeks ago I invited some of my girlfriends over for a girl’s night. We did facial masks and foot scrubs with all kinds of snacks and fun music playing. One of my friends had brought with her a bag of the Milk Bath from Bend Soap Company. I soaked my feet in it for about 10 minutes and the results were amazing! Having worn sandals all summer long, I had some dry spots and cracks on my heels. This milk bath made my feet feel so soft and rejuvenated.
I have also been using the Lavender Blossom Milk Bath at night to soak my skin as it is a bit itchy, growing from being in the 3rd trimester of my pregnancy. Not only does it make the whole bathroom smell divine, it makes my skin feel so soft, relieving the itch from stretching stomach skin.
I am a huge fan of Bend Soap. I appreciate their values and standards of making healthy products for the body.
Their goat milk soap uses four natural ingredients :
- Fresh raw goat’s milk
- Coconut oil
- Olive oil
- Red Palm oil
Then depending on the scent there is a little more added. For example, the Lavender Blossom Goat Milk Soap has these four ingredients, plus lavender essential oil and lavender buds. The Oatmeal & Honey Goat Milk Soap includes the basic four ingredients, plus oatmeal and honey.
In addition to their handcrafted goat milk soap, the Bend Soap Company also offers:
This is an awesome company that you can trust. I also love that this soap company is a husband and wife working together to make a quality product for the world to use. They exemplify great teamwork!
If you are looking for a paraben-free soap that will moisturize your skin, you should definitely check out the Bend Soap Company.
Here are two testimonies I pulled from their website from people who have used this soap:
I bought a bar of your soap when you were at the Art and Wine Festival in Mountain View a few weeks ago. I have fallen in LOVE with this soap! I have had a rash on my shoulder for the past 8 years, and the dermatologist could not tell me what it was. After using this soap, that rash has completely disappeared!!” – Alysha Madon
Thank you so much for the Oatmeal ‘n Honey goat’s milk soaps! My baby’s eczema spot on his chin got better (less red and flaky) after only two baths. Now, we’re going to try the Milk Bath in a Bag and I’m sure we’ll love it!” – Shannon Young
