My church has encouraged the congregation to do a 40 day fast together. I was deeply touched by last weeks sermon, which gave more understanding to why I should fast. I also want to encourage you, if you feel that the Lord is leading you to do so, to fast with us.
Please watch this 40 min sermon from Pastor Chuck:
“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke? “
The first thing that happens when we fast with the right motives, and tune into God is being set free from bondage. We will be able to be the people God wants us to be. There is freedom in fasting!
“Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe him,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?”
When we fast correctly, God sets us free and then we can unselfishly bless others.
This is my favorite part, the power of fasting is found in verses 8-12
“Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness will go before you,
and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.
Then you will call, and the LORD will answer;
you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.
If you do away with the yoke of oppression,
with the pointing finger and malicious talk,
and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday.
The LORD will guide you always;
he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail.
Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins
and will raise up the age-old foundations;
you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls,
Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.”
I want to experience God in this way, I want answered prayers, I want recovery, I want God to guide me, satisfy my needs and strengthen me.
We answered these questions recently in preparing for the fast and if you are considering fasting I urge you to answer them as well.
What are you fasting for?
What are you fasting from?
My husband and I are fasting for the salvation of family members, for others to find their purpose in God, for our marriage to reach a new depth, and that God would move in an extraordinary way with Unveiled Wife and Husband Revolution.
We have decided to fast from sweets, coffee, and the use of technology in bed.
Our goal is to draw closer to God and closer to each other.
I hope that you decide to fast as well. I am excited to see how God will move through our lives and through our marriages in just forty days!
The fast begins this coming Wednesday February 22nd!
I am going to be reading Isaiah 58 and Psalm 23 throughout the fast for encouragement.
Please let us know if you will be joining the fast and what we can pray for! Also, maybe add more encouraging scriptures!
*Also note: When we resist things that have been such a big part of our life, it can be easy for our flesh to get irritated more easily. Please evaluate your attitude daily, make sure you are not complaining or grumbling, this is when it is crucial to pray and lean on God more than ever. This is a growing process and an exercise of self-control and faith.
