Hello fellow wives!
My name is Marsha Neu. I am a child of God, a wife, stepmom, and mom. I am so excited to guest blog here on Unveiled Wife for the third time. My other articles include: One Wife’s Advice For Stepmoms and 3 Pieces Of Wisdom For StepMoms.
Jennifer’s website has been such a blessing to my life and I’m a huge supporter of hers. I’ve listened to her audio book “The Unveiled Wife” three times. I love how raw and yes, unveiled she is. I try to emulate that to other women in my life as well. We all have struggles and I never want another wife to think she is alone in them.
When I was first introduced to the blog Unveiled Wife a few years ago, Jen’s story with Parabens hit me hard. Before reading Jen’s testimony, I had never even heard of this chemical. I hadn’t really thought about what was in my personal products. After learning about how dangerous Parabens are, I purged my house of them. Turns out, they are in a lot of stuff! I also started looking up other dangerous toxins and chemicals that are in our personal products, and I was quite frustrated with what I found. Finding healthy, chemical free products is not that easy. And if you do find them, they are more expensive.
I have had some health issues in the past, one of which was that my hormones were unbalanced. Trust me ladies, we want our hormones to be balanced! It’s kinda important! I knew that replacing my chemical ladened lotions, face wash, body wash, etc. would help my health a lot. Especially since Parabens are known endocrine disrupters.
I am a DIY girl at heart, so I figured, why not make my own personal products?
Now, for those of you who think this is difficult, I can assure you it’s much easier than it sounds. I personally add essential oils to my products, (what could be more natural than God’s creation of plants and flowers?) but you certainly don’t have to. I wanted to share one of my favorite DIY’s with my fellow wifey friends.
Oh my goodness ladies, a good body butter is amazing. And it only takes two main ingredients: shea butter and coconut oil. I get my coconut oil from either Costco, Walmart, or Aldi’s. Just make sure it’s organic and cold pressed. You can get shea butter at your local health store or Amazon.
DIY Homemade Body Butter
- 1/4 cup Shea Butter
- 1/4 cup Coconut Oil
- 10-15 drops Lavender (optional)
Melt the shea butter and coconut oil over a double boiler. Stir occasionally. When done, place melted liquid in the fridge to harden. After it’s turned to a solid, take it out of the fridge and whip it with a hand mixer. You can add your lavender oil to it and continue to mix it for about 5 minutes. The longer you whip it, the more fluffy it will get!
Now you have homemade body butter, and you know exactly what is in it. No chemicals, no toxins, and only pure ingredients. A little bit goes a long way, so this should last you awhile. This is great for babies and children as well.
I hope to inspire you to take the first step at making your own products or purchasing chemical free ones.
