Are You Experiencing Marital Erosion?

erosion

Sometimes our fights are as strong as a current, as consistent as waves, and as stubborn as unmovable rocks.  Marital fights cause the same kind of erosion as powerful waves do when they hit the shore.

Is this not the truth?

When I fight with my husband, stubbornness and pride can be as strong as a boulder.  It doesn’t matter what is said, thrown, debated, or seen, stubbornness and pride seem unmovable.  I dig my heels down and refuse to pursue unity, for the sake of receiving validation for my feelings.  However, no matter how dense they (pride and stubbornness) seem to be, they are not quite unmovable when I really stop to think about it.

Slowly the tension between a husband and wife will tear each other down just like erosion on the shore.  After years of this process the deterioration of a marriage is evident.  Things shift and move.

Marital erosion is the breakdown of a marriage relationship.  What God intended for a husband and wife to experience as one, ends up in one billion tiny pieces…utterly broken, shattered, scattered.

Don’t hold on so tight to your expectations of marriage, unrelenting, and refusing to prevent erosion in your marriage.  Christ’s example on the cross shows us that we should not keep our arms folded or metaphorically holding onto too much.  Christ’s arms were stretched far and wide, exposed and vulnerable. Christ exemplified how to walk in humility, how to serve, how to love, and how to do things God’s way.

What would marriage look like if we reflected Christ’s example?

Marriage can be challenging.  I have experienced my share of fights and there have been times I allowed marital erosion to occur without even knowing it! However, I am learning that being a wife requires me to intentionally invest into my marriage by learning how to be a great wife, according to God’s will.  When I implement His Holy way and live out the characteristics of Christ, I do prevent marital erosion from happening…and you can too!
