My husband and I went to the movies for a spontaneous, much needed date recently. We were running a bit late and entered the dark theater, luckily found two open seats, and nestled in to enjoy the show. We had missed a few trailers for upcoming movies, but we made it in time for one very touching and powerful trailer.
I immediately recognized the actors from a mini-series that premiered on the History channel last year called The Bible. My husband and I watched the series, profoundly impacted by the way the series was directed as it portrayed depth to something we were already so familiar with. Seeing scenes of God’s love story played out through such interesting perspectives was an awe-inspiring experience.
Well…they have turned the mini-series into a movie called Son of God, set to release February 28th.
As I watched clips of Diogo Morgado playing Jesus on the big screen I could not stop thinking about the other people in the theater and the exposure they were getting to the Gospel. Then I thought about those who would come back to see the movie when it is released. I cannot tell you how much I anticipate this movie and I am praying for everyone who views it or even the trailer. It is going to change lives!
There were also a few scenes that aired during the trailer of Jesus’ mother, played by Roma Downey. She is very well known for her role in the TV drama Touched By An Angel. It reminded me of a Women of Faith event I went to last year where Roma Downey talked with Sheila Walsh and Lysa Terkeurst about the making of The Bible mini-series. I knew she played Jesus’ mother, but I did not realize that the vision for the movie came from her very heart! Roma shared her hope to one day see her dream come to life. God did an amazing thing as He led Roma and her husband, Mark Burnett, to produce The Bible and now the feature film Son of God.
In an industry where the boundaries of modesty and morals are seemingly losing value, I believe this movie Son of God is going to remind people how a good story can still be told and how it can really move someone without the extremity of explicit violence, language or sex.
I highly recommend that you put this date in your calendar and support the efforts of Christians in the movie making industry! Son of God is set to release in theaters February 28th.
Also, will you join me in sending letters of encouragement to Roma Downey as she continues to pursue God’s will in her field of work?
Roma Downey married Mark Burnett in April of 2007. As they celebrate their 7 years of marriage, let us join in the celebration by encouraging Roma in her role as a wife! I also want to encourage Roma in her dedication to spreading the Gospel through T.V. and Movies. If you follow Roma on Instagram you will see how passionate her heart is for Son of God, as she says,
It’s not just a movie, it’s a movement!
If you are interested in joining this love movement and feel like God is inspiring you to encourage Roma Downey and her husband please take some time to follow the steps below:
1. Pray and ask God to anoint your letter. Ask Him to use you to encourage Roma and ask Him to inspire the words to write!
2. Write Roma a brief, personal letter, including words of encouragement and a prayer for her and Mark (Please do not criticize or judge anywhere in your letter, remember this is about reflecting God’s love for them!)
3. Note specifically in your letter that the wives at Unveiled Wife are praying for them.
4. Take a picture of your letter and post it to Twitter or Facebook tagging @unveiledwife and @RealRomaDowney.
5. Seal your letter to Roma in an envelope and use the address below:
c/o Little Angels
300 W. 57th St
New York, NY 10019
6. Somewhere on the front of the envelope write boldly “unveiledwife.com/roma-downey”
7. Stamp it and send it!
8. Be an advocate and encourage other wives you know to do the same! (via word-of-mouth, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
Thank you for taking the time to be a part of this! Please be in continued prayer for Roma & Mark. Also, be praying that God uses all of these letters to move mightily in both of their lives and that His will is done.
Here is my letter:
You are a beautiful woman, you are gifted and you are inspiring. Thank you for being such a positive role model for women all around the world. The light of Christ shines brightly through you! My name is Jennifer and I am an author, passionately sharing God’s love story with others through my blog unveiledwife.com. I had the incredible opportunity to hear you speak at a Women of Faith event as you shared what it was like to envision The Bible Series and then witnessing, experiencing, and producing it to come to life. And it is an amazing piece of work! Well done! I think it is honorable that you and your husband continue to work as a team to spread the Gospel and I hope you both are strengthened during the journey. Thank you for inspiring so many, but most of all thank you for being obedient to God. May the Lord bless your marriage, may He equip you every day to fulfill your role as a wife and may He give you peace at all times and in every way.
“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way.” – 2 Thessalonians 3:16
– Jennifer Smith
I pray for Roma and her husband Mark right now. I ask that you would pour your peace over them and fill up their hearts. May you strengthen them as they continue the good work you have asked them to partake in. I pray their marriage is fortified and that no amount of work or promotion would get in the way of their love or being able to express it. I pray your favor on them as they pursue an endeavor that may shake the very industry they are in. I pray Roma leans on you all the more with each passing day. Remind her of the priority you have entrusted to her in her role as a wife. I pray you would equip her to fulfill that role as you created her to. If she is exhausted or weak, I ask that you would give her rest. If she is anxious, I pray for an increase of faith. If she is struggling with anything, may your Holy Spirit walk with her to resolve it. May you bless Roma and her family, sending encouragements to them in Jesus’ name AMEN!
