I love my girlfriends so much! They are such a necessary and vital part of my life. It is so important to surround yourself with women who will challenge you, encourage you, comfort you, and advise you! My friends have been there for me through some difficult times, being the tangible hands, feet, and heart of Jesus to me and my family! Making friends and keeping them is not always easy, but if we walk humbly and love others, there are bound to be some that stick closer than a brother!
My husband got me set up on Slack. It is a messaging app that keeps things organized. We decided to use it for the way my friends, and the women in our Church Fellowship keep in touch. Things were getting lost in texts and the notifications were making everyone’s head spin a little too fast. We set up a Slack group and got everyone to join. It has been a great way to keep all of our conversations in one place and its so organized. We set up different threads such as a prayer thread, one for events, recipes, God’s Word, and one for kids health.
This last month I had the privilege of planning our Women’s Retreat. It has blessed me to serve the ladies in our church this way. As I was working on plans, I thought about how encouraged I am by how each one of us respond to each other through Slack during the week. Some request prayer or ask for advice and then we all chime in what we can and its BEAUTIFUL!
I was so encouraged I decided to copy and paste a handful of the wonderful messages shared on our Slack to remind the women during the retreat just how powerful our words are! Here are some of the things my friends say….
I’m praising God with you!
I’m praying for you, friend.
You are not alone!
Keep your eyes focused on Jesus.
Keep the faith sister. Never doubt that you all are loved and we are here for you.
Love you guys so much and I’m so sorry you’re going through this.
May the Lord’s peace that surpasses all understanding fall on you and all your hearts tonight.
Your testimony of obedience means so much to me!
Proud of you for choosing to let the Lord work in you.
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26
“And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.” – 1 Peter 5:10
Christ is in you and because of that you have already won the battle! Reminding myself of this always helps me when I’m feeling trapped down or attacked by the enemy!
It can be so hard to take our own thoughts captive, but as you’ve witnessed, letting the Lord take over will bring Him glory all the more.
1 Peter 5: 8-9 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.” From those verses, I want to encourage you to hold fast to the truth. Be vigilant about it. The devil wants you to believe those lies, but you can “resist him” and be “steadfast in the faith.”
James 4:7-8 says “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” So while you are struggling with the lie that you are alone, it is so important to “draw near to God.”
Another motivation to get in the Word that is huge for me, is that we are called to “exhort one another daily” (Hebrews 3:13). I’m continually encouraged to be reading my Bible so that I have the resources to encourage my sisters in Christ, my husband, and my kids. Even wanting to respond to you encouraged me to dig deeper in the Word on your behalf.
I can tend to be SO focused on certain goals and tasks I end up being a lone wolf, but I want to get to know each of you better, and grow our friendships.
Preach truth to yourself.
Don’t let that doubt sit in your heart!
The enemy knows right where to get you..and remember the mind can be deceitful, so we have to have control over our thoughts!
Find your battle verse for when that fear pops back up, because it will. Let the words continually wash over you as you chose faith. “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?”
Psalms 56:3-4 ESV
You have the Holy Spirit, walk in it and pray continually as a difficult moment approaches (taking my own advice here). You can do it!
You guys are a bright light for God’s glory in this world.
Isn’t it amazing though when you feel like there is nothing left, yet you still carry on? You aren’t alone. God is with you. He is your strength. Lean in harder.
Stay strong in the Lord!
Sometimes I forget that the Lord gives us wisdom whenever we ask for it. But this verse refreshes my spirit and the Lord is Faithful to meet me where I’m at and give me the wisdom I need. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” James 1:5 Praying the Lord gives you wisdom
So sorry to hear how you are struggling! You are not alone! God is with you and we all understand! Friend you can do this! The Holy Spirit empowers you! Get in the Word and be reminded that God is with you and for you!
I’m reminded just how brief this life is and to make the most of every day. Don’t forget to say I love you or kiss your kids and husband goodnight.
I know the Lord has GREAT things in store for you guys!
Protect and strengthen your mind with God’s Word!
Hang in there, friend! You are raising wonderful children!
Let us help bear the load along with your sweet family.
Remember you and your husband are a team and remember your mission. Remember to have patience and grace with each other, you’re a good team.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you guys need anything!
You’re a good mom!
Take a deep breath, cry a little, and pray.
Lay your worries at the foot of the cross.
Just take a moment to breathe, maybe even step outside for a few minutes. That always helps bring me back down from an emotional rollercoaster. Love you friend!
You’re an amazing mommy, and the Lord has chosen YOU as the perfect mother for your kids.
You are a good mom. It is a new day tomorrow.
Hoping today is brighter and better! His mercies are new every morning.
We all can and should be spiritually strong for our families even while our flesh is weak. It is in these times your faith and character are put to the test.
You are not alone in the battle of patience and endurance.
It may seem like you are running in survival mode right now and that’s ok. Remember that it is temporary. Praying for endurance.
Aren’t these words so refreshing?! I hope they encourage you today as much as they have served as encouragement to me and the women I get to call my friends. I also want to encourage you to be a friend who uses her words to lift up your friends, to remind your friends of truth, and to point them back to God, always!
