When I first started blogging I was not aware of who else was pouring their hearts over the web. I began searching for other women who had a passion to encourage others, while giving positive resources for marriage. One of the very first places I landed was Women Living Well.
Every day I jumped on to read the words Courtney would post. She became a source of inspiration for me. Her zeal and love for God was evident, I liked that a lot.
Over the course of about a year I connected with Courtney and we became friends. Her encouragement in my life has given me confidence while I exert my passion to help others through my writing just like her.
Courtney recently released a beautiful book called Women Living Well: Finding Your Joy In God, Your Man, Your Kids and Your Home. When I received my copy of her book I was excited to jump in and start reading. Not only is Women Living Well an easy read, but Courtney’s voice is very relatable. She is a wife and mother just like us, inspired by God to help us live well.
Another great aspect of the book is it almost reads similar to her blog Womenlivingwell.org. Each section is broken down to concise ideals regarding faith, marriage, parenting and homemaking. Her theme of women living well is woven throughout each section, teaching the importance of drinking daily from the living well, God Himself. Her signature “Walk with the King!” was a vital reminder for me that whether in my role as a wife or mother, I will only improve as I spend intentional time with God.
The Word of God is full of living water. We need to drink deeply from this living well so we can be women living well. – Courtney Joseph
Among sharing personal stories from her life and Biblical teaching, Courtney provides challenges and tips for ways to improve your life. Women Living Well is encouraging as it helps you take a deep breath while life continues to swirl around you. I believe it is important to invest into you life with content such as this, words that will make you think about the way you operate, with ways to guide you as you strive to be the best you can be.
It is in times of solitude that God refuels us and we can hear His voice. In our restful times we can find order in the midst of chaos and connect with our Creator. – Courtney Joseph
Are you getting enough solitude? If you are feeling inpatient, irritable, bitter, forgetful, disorganized, or disconnected from God—it’s time to take care of your soul. Grab your Bible and get alone with God!
Courtney does not shy away from bringing up marriage issues that almost every wife struggles with. Here is an except as she talks about forgiveness in marriage…
I don’t know what your husband has done or said, but if you are holding on to it and refusing to forgive your husband, you are going to poison your thoughts and your heart. It is going to come out in different ways in your home, and soon your home is not going to be a pleasant place. There will be pain and suffering there.
I encourage you today to go to the foot of the cross and lay down all that pain and all that sorrow and exchange it for the grace and mercy that God gives. Give your husband forgiveness, the same forgiveness you experienced at the cross. If you have hurt your husband, seek his forgiveness.
Such a simple insight, but a powerful reminder for us wives.
Right in the middle of her book, during the part on marriage, Courtney provides a marriage challenge that is very similar to a mini devotional. A verse opens up each day’s topic, Courtney shares a little teaching, then there is a challenge for that day and a little room to reflect on how you will apply what you are learning. I love that she challenges wives this way; it helps us to stop and truly think and invest into our marriage. Courtney uses these words to introduce the Completing Him Marriage Challenge:
You are the perfect complement to your husband. You were not created to compete with your husband but to complete him. You have the power to breathe life into your marriage or to break it.
One other aspect that Courtney hits throughout each section is the media. She sheds light on how media interferes and effects our time with God, with our husbands and with our children. This is a huge issue with our ever-increasing age of technology. I am so excited that she brings up this issue, encouraging women to be aware of use of technology, challenging us not to abuse it or allow it to abuse our relationships.
If you are looking for a refreshing book. Something you can pick up at anytime of the day and put down feeling good about life, yet with hopefulness of how you be better at doing life than I recommend this book! It will inspire you to evaluate your important relationships including your faith in God, your journey with your husband and with your kids.
