 Our words matter!

Not just our words, but how we present our words matter.  The tone in our voice, the posture of our body language, and the attitude behind our words all matter.

Communication is a gift God has given us so that we may express ourselves, share life with others, and build relationships.  However, this gift can be misused or abused all in HOW we communicate.  This verse below is a great reminder to use God’s gift of communication for the building up of one another, especially our spouse and children!

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” – Ephesians 4:29

Love this truth – I live by it. Might I add a word of caution: Just because I, as a wife and mother, realize the great importance and meaning captured in our words and their delivery does not mean I ought to place the same high standard for communication delivery on others communications TO me. Some people don’t realize how the way they use their words can dramatically alter the tone and meaning of what they’re trying to communicate. But really, I share this as an encouragement: as women we tend to exaggerate the meaning we gain from others’ communications to us, when really, we shouldn’t allow what’s going on OUTSIDE of us to affect the fruit the Spirit is trying to work INSIDE of us. Don’t grow bitter over the words that have been communicated to you because you’ve placed so much meaning on their delivery, or that bitterness will affect the words and delivery of our return communications…hope that made sense.
