So often we search for the perfect gift for those that we love. And at times, our husband can be the hardest to shop for. What if I told you that this year, the best gift you can give your husband doesn’t cost money. And on top of that it is a priceless gift.

The best gift a wife can give her husband is to love Jesus!

It sounds simple and it seems like it should be a no-brainer. I can already hear you saying “Well, I already do love Jesus – but what does that have to do with my husband?”

It has everything to do with how you love your husband.

When we really love Christ and we take on His attributes we begin to love as He loves. That means you aren’t just loving your husband in your own strength. You are actually loving him as an empowered child of God. When we try to love our husband in our flesh, so often we are weak, tired and running on empty. Our spirit needs to be renewed by the Word of God and as the love of Christ falls upon us, we are empowered to love others well.

When we love Jesus, we are able to love our husband as Christ Himself loves our husband.

We love because He first loved us. – 1 John 4:19

What does loving Jesus look like?

When we have an intimate relationship with our Savior, the overflow of His love for us will flood all other relationships. Your husband will begin to see Christ in you and you will radiate God’s love and kindness. On days when I neglect my relationship with Christ, in turn my relationship with my husband ultimately suffers. It is so important to manage your time, make sure you are reading the Word and communing with God daily. With the Holy Spirit living within you, you’re able to love your husband with a selfless, God-honoring love and respect.

Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. – Ephesians 5:22-24

Go back in time with me and remember the beginning puppy-love stage of your romance with your husband. You couldn’t wait to speak to him each day. You longed for every phone call. And when you saw each other you got butterflies in your stomach. Just as you fell in love with your husband, we must also fall in love with Jesus.

If we truly love Jesus we will not only want to spend time with Him, we will crave it.

This Christmas the greatest way you could love your husband is to fall in love with our Savior. I encourage you to examine your relationship with Christ and renew your vow to Him and then in prayer, ask God to strengthen the vows you made to your husband. So this year, along with your other gifts that you may give your husband, consider wrapping up a prayer to the Lord and putting it in your husband’s stocking.

Dear Heavenly Father, Please help me to fall even more in love with You. Help my desire for You to grow as I seek You in Your Word. Speak truth and life into me. Allow me to love as you have loved me. Lord, I pray that I will be a reflection of you to my husband and I ask that you would bless my marriage. Strengthen us in You and allow us to be stronger together for Your glory than we ever could be a part. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
